Ways to Stop a Dripping Tap Driving You Mad

Many people face the annoying problem of a dripping tap in their homes. This is that one tap that just will not stop dripping no matter how much effort is exerted trying to tighten it, and for some people this can become unbearable. Sleepless nights listening to the constant rhythm of water hitting the sink, stress as the sound constantly pierces the tranquil silence of the night and wasted efforts trying in vain to tighten the offending tap. Well it is time to finally fix that problem once and for all and here are three solutions to help you out.

1. Move to a different house

One solution to solving your dripping tap problem is to move to a different house which does not have a dripping tap. If this is a good option for you then you should spend a lot of time checking the taps in your new home to make sure that they will not present the same problem. Test every tap in the potentially new house to make sure that they do tighten sufficiently without too much effort. You could even ask the estate agent to check how recently the washers in the taps were changed. If, this option seems a bit drastic, and moving to another house is not an option for you, then you may want to consider these other options.

2. Fix it yourself

If you are the DIY type then you might be delighted to know that fixing a dripping tap can be relatively easy, providing you know what you are doing. The job basically involves replacing the old worn out washer in the tap with a new one. The local DIY store or plumbing supplier will be able to recommend a good washer for the type of tap that you are experiencing problems with. You should just take the old washer with you to save yourself having to try and explain your tap or having to draw a picture.

Before working on the tap you should ensure that the water supply is switched off from the mains to prevent flooding the room. You will then need to remove the screw on the tap, remove the old washer and replace with the new one.

3. Call in the professionals

There are many local reputable plumbers such as JEDI Plumbing that will be more than willing to get the job done for you. With this option you will have the peace of mind in knowing that the job will get done properly and you get to keep your house free from the nightmare of dripping taps. A professional will have the right washer to properly replace the old one and be able to give you advice on how to maintain your taps and hopefully make the washer last a little longer this time.
